Spatial Computing Lab
Ongoing development to integrate the latest Unreal Engine features toward serious game applications across a variety of academic departments and research topics for practical applications and public outreach.
ARNO: Networked XR Development System
Built upon the National Research Platform (NRP) network, UC San Diego’s Clarke Center for Human Imagination and the Qualcomm Institute are developing server-side rendering tools and deployment of an Unreal-based game experience to scale the Metaverse AR/VR hardware needs into a distributed system, enabling a campus-wide XR test bed representing the third generation of big data visualization, realized through persistent, procedural rendered simulations produced from live data at global scale.
Maya Archeology
A Collaboration between the Engineers for Exploration (E4E) and Triton XR organizations at UCSD, focused on collecting 3D data from Maya structures through the use of technologies such as LiDAR, photogrammetry, and SLAM. The project produces 3D models in the form of point clouds or meshes, which are then used to create a virtual reality experience that allows users to explore the excavations.
XR Jockey
Prototypes of audio/visual instruments that can be programmed beforehand or manipulated live during performance using Unity, Vuforia, Ableton, TouchDesigner.
Wasteland
“Wasteland” is a short interactive VR film created in Unity by UC San Diego’s Triton XR Club’s Animation Studio exploring the medium as an entertaining and impactful way to educate people about environmental issues. I created the Woolly Mammoth and Waterfall assets using 3ds Max, ZBrush, and Substance Painter.
